Xcoal’s gift will underwrite flagship programs such as the Young Leaders Forum and the track II economic and energy dialogues; support new initiatives including the Leaders Speak series; and build capacity through the technology and talent funds. Mr. Thrasher’s 40 years of experience in the coal industry, during a time when the sector has undergone many changes, has enabled him to lead Xcoal in becoming the largest exporter of U.S. coal to Asia, and to seek innovation in a changing energy landscape by broadening its scope to include natural gas exploration and infrastructure projects.
The National Committee is pleased to announce that it is launching a new Track II dialogue between the United States and China to discuss issues surrounding healthcare faced by both nations. Under the overall theme of “Providing Effective Healthcare,” the dialogue will examine the effectiveness of the healthcare systems in China and the United States and recommend ways to better measure and manage the delivery and efficiency of healthcare in the two countries. Dr. Olivier Brandicourt, CEO of the global healthcare provider Sanofi and a director of the National Committee, has encouraged and supported the Committee to undertake this project, which is one of the new initiatives celebrating the Committee’s 50th Anniversary.

In support of the Now More Than Ever 50th Anniversary Campaign, the National Committee is pleased to announce a generous personal contribution of $1 million from Jerry Yang and his wife, Akiko Yamazaki. Yang is co-founder of Yahoo! and a recent addition to the Committee’s board of directors. Launched at last month’s 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner, the Campaign celebrates five decades of being at the forefront of the U.S.-China relationship. As the National Committee looks ahead to the next 50 years, this contribution will support its ongoing mission of promoting constructive relations through educating people in both countries.
