The National Committee’s Time Warner Internship Program enabled fourth-year Fudan University students with an interest in journalism and media to participate in a three-month internship at various Time Warner entities in the United States. Over the course of the program’s nine year span (1998-2006), a total of 39 students — 3-6 annually — were given the opportunity to work at Time and Fortune magazines, CNN, Warner Bros. Studios, HBO, and Warner Music, among other divisions.

The program took place between September and December each year. Interns began with a 10-day orientation about American history and culture, followed by ten weeks of interning and a wrap-up session in Los Angeles. Interns lived in different cities based on the location of their company placement: New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C. They also experienced different living arrangements, from host families to dorm-style facilities to private apartments.

Our Time Warner intern alumni remain involved in various National Committee programs. Of the program alumni, approximately one-third continued on to graduate school in a program related to their work with Time Warner. In addition, approximately one-sixth currently work in media outlets in the United States and China.

The National Committee is very grateful to all those who made this such a successful program: the students themselves, who came to a new country with such enthusiasm and openness; the mentors and colleagues at the various Time Warner entities where the interns worked; the host families who made the interns feel as if they had a second home; and the various organizations where the interns did public education outreach over the years.
